The Culture of Rowing and Swimming is a series of events organised by Oxford BrookesUniversity and funded by Creative Campus Initiative, as part of the celebrations leading up to the 2012 Olympics. The project takes place in Oxford in July and aims to start new dialogues across rowing, swimming and art.

Symposium, artists’ residency and projects plus a programme of participatory rowing and swimming activities in Oxford July 2010:
Best selling authors Hans Maartenven den Brink and Kate Rew will speak at a symposium, joined by artists, and rowing and swimming atheletes. Internationally acclaimed artists Gediminas and Nomeda Urbonas are working in Oxford for a month examining the cultures, environments and economies of three rivers (The Thames, The Vilnia in Lithuania and The Charles in Boston). And members of the public are invited to try out a new sporting experience:

The Culture of Rowing and Swimming will initiate new dialogues across sport and art. Curated by Oxford Brookes Art Theory Lecturer Dr. Tracey Warr, and by Rob La Frenais, working with Project Assistant Tiffany Horan, First Year Fine Art Undergraduate.
Funded by The Creative Campus Initiative which is a major opportunity to create an unprecedented level of cultural collaboration between Universities in the UK. In support of the Cultural Olympiad, 13 universities in the South East have collaborated to commission new art works, innovative research, critical debate, learning and community projects which take direct and tangential inspiration from different Olympic and Paralympic sports.
