Our new and exciting BA and MA Film Studies courses combine the academic rigour of a traditional programme with practical and vocationally orientated components. This enables you to develop a profile that will stand you in good stead for a variety of careers in the film and media industry.

The courses are taught by a strong team of specialists with different national and cultural backgrounds, whose diverse research expertise is reflected in the breadth and scope of the curriculum.

Professionals from the film and media industry contribute to undergraduate modules on the Film Industry, Film Production and Screenwriting. In addition, at our Film Studies Events you will meet guest speakers who discuss their various roles in the film industry with you. Previous years' speakers included: the internationally renowned filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski, Tanya Seghatchian - producer of the Harry Potter films, Nick Goldsmith - producer of The Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy and Son of Rambow, the Irish filmmaker Pat Murphy, the award-winning documentary filmmaker Sean MacAllister and journalist Mark Kermode.

Simon West - the acclaimed director of Con Air and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - is Research Fellow for the MA.

The School of Arts and Humanities offers an innovative and diverse programme in Film Studies, which teaches you to think about classical and contemporary film in its historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts. It introduces you to the craft and the business of filmmaking. Your degree in Film Studies will enable you to develop the skills required for a whole range of career possibilities: from film, TV and media journalism to field research; from production management for film and TV companies to creative writing for the screen... and more.

Our courses will open your eyes to the endless technological and creative possibilities of this exciting visual medium.

Film Studies is one of several programmes of study offered by the Department of Arts which is part of the School of Arts and Humanities at Oxford Brookes.
