Entry Requirements

The general entry requirements for postgraduate study are:

  • A good honours degree, i.e. an upper second or first, in any subject
  • A qualification equivalent to a good British honours degree.

Applicants without a first degree, but with extensive experience may also be considered

Individual courses may have additional entry requirements to these, so please check in the Course Catalogue available here.

English language requirements

If your first language is not English then you will need to indicate the level of your English language skills. The easiest way to do this is to take a recognised English language test.

↑

Choosing a test:

Oxford Brookes University recognises a number of different English language tests, and provides information about the level required for each one.

If you are taking a different English language test to those mentioned in this list, please contact the Postgraduate Administrator for the course you are interested in to make sure it is a test the University recognises.

↑

Taking the test:

It will be most convenient for you to take an English language test in the country in which you are based. However, the Oxford Brookes International runs courses specifically designed to prepare for study at Brookes. WELT can also be taken. For more information about these courses, see the Oxford Brookes International website.

↑

Getting the right level:

Once you have taken your test, you need to get a score that will meet the entry requirements. In general the requirements are:

↑

For MA Humanities courses:

  • IELTS 7.0
  • TOEFL paper-based 600
  • TOEFL computer-based 250+
